Welcome Back!

We’ve been busy with our new facilities and also re-vamping our menu with some fresh new dishes and healthy fruit choices for all the kiddees! Daycare love to play with the older kids in our library and daycare room and everyone is super smart at listening and learning from T. Nicky 🙂 This week we our topic is ‘The five senses’ so we learnt about things we can see, taste, touch, smell and hear. We also have loads of brand new toys, a particular favourite is the ride on unicorns with sound, even the teachers love having a go! We hope to see some more kiddees soon, so we will keep you updated 🙂

This week’s activities and vocabulary list (week 8)

This week the day care children are learning the phonics sound (sound of the letters) D, E and F and objects / toys beginning with those 3 sounds in our mystery boxes. Last week we focused on the sound of the letters A,B and C.

This week’s vocabulary list: D, dog, duck, deer, dinosaur, drum,  E, egg, elephant, eggplant, F, fish, frog, flower, fairy.

For numeracy, they are counting up to 10 now and their fine motor skill in lacing, using clothes pegs and stacking blocks are developing very well. They are starting to be able to point at the correct numbers now.

Week 5 June 12th-16th: Phonics and counting

This week’s vocabulary list:  apple, ant, airplane, ball, butterfly, bed, bird, bread, banana, book,  cat, carrot, clown, corn, car, cake, crocodile.

We have been focusing on the phonics sounds of A, B and C this week and using  “surprise boxes” to show objects that begin with that sound. The kids have been doing really good and they are all speaking up.

We are still doing numbers and counting 2-3 times a week. This week we used wooden donuts on chopsticks and counted to 6, as well as number recognition.

Week 3 Day care activities : Focusing more on counting and number recognition

This week we are using multi-sensory ways to learn counting and numbers:  seeing, hearing, saying out loud, singing, touching and moving objects.

The day care children are quickly learning how to count up to 6 now and are becoming more familiar with the numbers (focusing on 1-6 this week).  On Monday and Tuesday we used squishy balls and every child had to fill up big bowls with the amount of squishy balls following the number attached on the bowls 1 – 5.

Today we played with a giant dice, rolling the dice to see how many dots we get, counting the dots and go find that number (1-6). Everybody did so well and should be very proud of themselves! Yay!

Week 2 Day care activities

After a busy first week of the new school semester, we are back with our blog update!

The Day Care children have been learning how to count from 1 – 20 through songs with movements. We are also tracing the numbers 0-5 and learning how to hold a pencil properly (‘TRIPOD GRIP’). All the children are so excited and doing very well at trying to hold and control the pencil to follow the shape of the numbers and also some letters. We started tracing capital letter A and B this week and are singing along to PHONICS songs. Phonic songs introduces children to the sound of each letter and helps them become more ready for reading later on.  I will include the video links for the songs we have been listening to / watching in class at the bottom of this post.

We started a new topic today about homes. We looked at pictures of a few types of homes: House, Condo, Igloo, Tipi, Mud house.

Please be reminded that our Parents-Teachers meeting is on this Saturday the 27th of May from 1:30 – 3:30 P.M. Hope everyone can make it.  Please call the front office to confirm that you will be attending.

And here are the cute photos as always!

This week’s theme is Pond Life. We are learning the names of some animals and plants that live in the pond.

This week we are learning some vocabulary related to pond life. Here is the vocabulary list:   pond,  water lily,  frog,   frog’s eggs,   tadpole,  duck,  toad,   pond snail,  dragonfly,

For MATH we are doing an activity called “hungry frog”.  How many flies shall we feed the frog? We are focusing on counting up to 5 and feeding the frog 1 to 5 flies by looking at the number card and taking one fly at a time (not grabbing a whole bunch), put it into the frog’s mouth to feed the hungry frog.

Our 5 Senses activity

Today the day care children explored their sense of touch by feeling what’s inside a sock. As they put their hand into the sock and feel the objects inside, they made funny, curious faces trying to figure out what it is.  We filled the sock each time with something different:  red kidney beans, cotton wool, small stones, leaves, twigs,  small plastic wolf figure.

We also explored our sense of hearing by listening to the sounds of many things, such as: a bus, a cow, rain, soda drink fizzing, chicken, a train, a police car siren, a door opening, sheep, ducks.  The children listened very carefully and were able to guess some of the sounds they heard.

They had fun using their hands and ears today and learned some new words.

Vocabulary used in this activity:  red beans,   cotton,   leaves,   stones,    twig,  wolf,   I hear,  bus,  cow,  rain,  soda drink,  chicken,  train,  police car,  door,  sheep,  duck. Â
